The overall inflation rose to 6.24 percent on a point-to-point basis last month from 6.17 percent in August, the latest Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data has revealed.

“The situation is stable,” Kamal told the media on Tuesday. “Inflation is under control. It rose marginally due to a spurt in Eid shopping.”

Food inflation dropped to 5.92 percent from 6.06 percent the month before, while non-food inflation rose by 0.38 percent to 6.73 percent.

“Last month’s non-food inflation rise impacted the overall inflation,” he said.

An overall inflation of 6.24 percent in a month means people have to spend Tk 106.24 to buy stuff that could be had for Tk 100 during the same period a year before.

Inflation in rural areas rose by 0.1 percent to 5.86 percent. It rose marginally in the urban areas to 6.96 percent from 6.94 percent.
