The fair started also at Upazilas for the first time this year on Wednesday.

In Dhaka, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the fair.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Nojibur Rahman and Member (Administration) Abdur Razzaq, among other top officials, were present.

Minister Amu mentioned that Bangladesh became a lower-middle income country.

"It will be possible to become a middle income country by 2021 and a high income country by 2041 as planned by the government, if everyone pays income tax properly," he said.

"We'll be able to develop ourselves," he added.

NBR Chairman Rahman urged all to avail the services at the fair.

The fair has been organised at seven divisional headquarters, 64 districts, and 86 Upazilas.

In Dhaka and the divisional headquarters, the fair will continue for a week and in the districts for four days.

Mobile fairs are organised at the Upazila-level.

The NBR said the services provided in the fairs include submission of tax returns, collection of new e-Tax Identification Number (TIN), and renewal of old TIN as e-TIN.

The taxpayers are also given help to calculate tax using the tax calculator on the NBR website.

The board has been organising the fair since 2010 to encourage citizens to pay taxes and adopt new systems.

It drew Tk 16.75 billion income tax in last year's fair. A total of 149,309 submitted tax returns and 26,745 TINs were issued.

The government has set a target to collect Tk 1 trillion 763.7 billion revenue, including Tk 649.71 billion income tax, in 2015-16 fiscal year.
