Govt pumps Tk 9.15 billion into project to better Rajshahi power distribution

The government has pumped Tk 9.15 billion into a project to improve  power distribution system in Rajshahi region.

New 200,000 subscribers will be brought under electricity coverage.
 
Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project at a meeting held on Tuesday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
 
The meeting gave the go-ahead to four other projects involving Tk 2.89 billion.
 
According to the project paper of ‘Power Distribution System Development Project, Rajshahi Zone’, 1,375-kilometre new distribution line will be developed and 1,808-kilometre line repaired under the project.
 
Systems loss will “decline by 4 percent” thanks to the project, to be implemented by the Power Development Board (PDB) by December 2018, it says.
 
After the meeting, State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan spoke to reporters on different aspects of the projects.
 
The others are Tk 1 billion irrigation project in Barisal Division, Tk 390 million project for invention of water-saving technology for rice growing, establishment of Jamalpur Textile Institute (Tk 620 million) and construction of 20-storey Sheikh Russel Tower for Dhaka University officials (Tk 880 million).
