The figure is Tk 23.59 billion less than the target set for the July-January period of the 2014-15 FY.

NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman revealed the information at a press conference at the board’s headquarters at Dhaka’s Segunbagicha on Tuesday afternoon.

He was, however, hopeful that NBR would be able to reach the whole-year’s target despite the collection shortfall in the seven months.

Rahman said: “All commissioners of taxes, VAT and duty working at the grassroots level have been given necessary instructions to this effect. They’re working relentlessly to reach the revenue collection target.”

“There are some challenges and we are committed to properly tackle them together,” he added.

In the 2013-14 FY, revenue collection fell short of target by over Tk 43.80 billion. Around Tk 1.21 trillion was collected in that year against the target of Tk 1.25-trillion.

The government has fixed the target at around Tk 1.5 trillion for the current FY.
