I didn't invent social business, I've branded it: Yunus

Muhammad Yunus says social business is like ‘frying a fish in its own oil’ – a Bangla idiom that in English roughly means once the pump is primed, the enterprise will carry on under its own steam.

“I did not invent it. I've been only branding it to ensure some rules are followed while running it," he told an audience in Chittagong on Thursday.

Yunus and the Grameen Bank were co-winners of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

He argued that social businesses were different from regular business.

“Social business is neither about donation nor is it about huge profits.

"It is a matter of social welfare. You invest for a year, get your money back and then use it to expand your business,” he enthused.
