Dhaka, Jan 27 (bdnews24.com)—Foreign affairs adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury has said chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed's participation in the World Economic Forum's annual meeting promoted Bangladesh's profile in the world.

In a statement released Saturday, the adviser, who also attended the summit in Switzerland, said Fakhruddin had explained Bangladesh's current institutional reforms to leading delegates at the meeting.

He reiterated that free, fair and credible elections would be held by year-end, said the statement.

The World Economic Forum was attended by over 2,400 global leaders, including 27 heads of state and other academic and business leaders.

This was the first time the WEF had invited the head of the Bangladeshi government to the event.

The CA told world leaders that a silent revolution was underway, transforming society in a positive manner through microcredit, education, women's empowerment and marginalisation of extremism, Chowdhury said.

The foreign adviser added that Fakhruddin had stressed the importance of Bangladesh as a growing Asian state within the rapidly transforming South Asian region.

The chief adviser and the foreign adviser returned from Davos, Switzerland Saturday.
