Australia to increase annual assistance 33%

Dhaka, May 24 (bdnews24.com)—Australia's annual assistance of US$36 million to Bangladesh will soon increase by 33 percent, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

Australian High Commissioner Douglas Foskett met foreign affairs adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury in his office to discuss the issues of bilateral cooperation, the ministry said in a statement.

The adviser's visit to Australia on June 13-14 came up for discussion.

On the recent developments in Bangladesh, Foskett said: "We are happy that all is looking positive for the future."

On Australian cooperation, Chowdhury said Bangladesh would seek Australian assistance in developing information technology capabilities.
