Dhaka, May 24 (bdnews24.com)—At least three people died in storms that swept much across the country, packing high winds and heavy rains.

The police said two men were killed when their tin-roofed shop on Free School Street of Kathalbagan in Dhaka was electrified after a live electric wire collapsed in a blast of winds.

Sub-inspector Zahurul Islam of Dhanmondi Police Station named the dead as Tasirul Islam, 55, and 20-year-old shop employee Ramzan Mia.

Another man was electrocuted in thundershowers in Elasin village of Delduar upazila in Tangail.

Delduar upazila nirbahi officer Rekha Rani Balo told bdnews24.com that the man who died in the storms was Shunil Chandra Bangshi.

She also said that at least 15 people were taken to hospital after they suffered injuries in flying debris.

The storm pulled down up to 400 tin-roofed houses in the village, the officer said.

The stormy day came after a spell of sweltering heat that swept through the country.

Weather forecaster Rashiduzzaman of the meteorological department said winds sped through the area of Zia International Airport at 87 kilometres per hour.
