Sabbir's comparison with Kohli piques Indian interest

Bangladesh batsman Sabbir Rahman's comments that he wants to become a batsman like Virat Kohli have attracted a lot of media attention – but not in a positive way.

The aggressive batsman struck an impressive 50 off 62 balls against Australia on Day 1 of the 2nd Test in Chittagong.

After the day's play, Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon made an interesting observation about Sabbir. "He's a good player, he reminds me of Virat Kohli," said Lyon.

When asked about the Australian's remarks, 25-year-old Sabbir responded, "I can become a batsman like Virat Kohli, everything is possible. But contributing to the team is more important than being compared to someone else."

The NDTV ran a headline that reads "Twitter ROFL after Bangladesh batman's Virat Kohli comparison" with a teaser "all Sabbir Rahman did was to say that he could become a batsman like Virat Kohli."

 

The netizens use ROFL for rolling on the floor laughing.

As the comments from Chittagong trickled in, some viewers in India had a bit of fun at Sabbir's expense while others had words of advice for him on social media.

One 'tuba' said on Twitter, "It's praiseworthy that u r dreaming big. But please don't declare it officially like this! Better don't try to b Kohli, try to b "Sabbir."

Ashish Jadhab AJ said, "Bhai photoshop se ban sakta hai.....!!" while Abhishek PG tweeted, "It's time to wake up from your sleep Sabbir."

Earlier on the Day-1 Lyon decimated the hosts' top order but Sabbir and Mushfiqur Rahim put on 105 for the sixth wicket to steady the hosts.

They displayed contrasting styles in their stand, with Sabbir playing adventurous shots while Mushfiqur anchored.

Sabbir scored his 50 off only 62 balls but slowed as Mushfiqur became more confident, smashing his own half-century off 124 balls.

Lyon claimed seven wickets to help Australia bowl out Bangladesh for 305 on day two of the second and final Test on Tuesday.
