President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said Hamid felicitated the Tigers from Bangabhaban after the end of the match early on Saturday (BdST) in Cardiff.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina phoned Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah, the heroes of the victory, to congratulate the Tigers on the occasion, said the Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.

They hammered scintillating centuries in a record 224-run partnership to snatch the 5-wicket victory.

The win has knocked the Black Caps out of the tournament and brightened Bangladesh's prospects of playing in the semifinals.

"The joy of a hard-earned victory is different. We'll have to maintain this momentum. Victories must follow us," Karim quoted the prime minster as saying.
