India beat Bangladesh by 64 runs in women's Asia Cup

India have swept Bangladesh past with a 64-run win in the opening match of the women's Twenty20 Asia Cup.

Asked to bat, India posted 118/6 at the Asian Institute of Technology ground on Saturday.

In reply, Bangladesh were bundled out for a paltry 54.

India legspinner Poonam Yadav bagged three wickets while experienced pacer Jhulan Goswami and Anuja Patil took with two wickets each to put paid to Bangladesh hopes.

Shaila Sharmin (18) and Salma Khatun (17) top scored for Bangladesh while eight of their batsmen failed to reach double figures, with six of them making just one run each.

Earlier, skipper Mithali Raj played a fine 49-run knock and forged a crucial 70-run opening stand with Smriti Mandhana (41) to take India to a respectable score.

For Bangladesh, Khadija Tul Kubra earned two scalps while Jahanara Alam and Ritu Moni grabbed a wicket each.
