The selectors left out pacer Shafiul Islam when they announced a 15-strong squad on Monday evening for the Mirpur Test.

The Tigers gave England a run for their money in the first Test, falling agonisingly short by just 22 runs in Chittagong on the final day in what would have been an epic win in their Test history.

Mosaddek Hossain

Shafiul bowled just 12 overs in two innings in the first Test. His influence on the English batsmen was minimal and he did not have any wicket to show for either.

Pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi, who earned his first Test cap in the opening Test, retained his spot in the team.

He gave away 41 runs from eight overs in the first innings but did well with the old ball in the second innings. He dismissed Jonny Bairstow to break a crucial century stand.

Subashis Roy

While the selectors have kept a combination including two pacers in the equation, the inclusion of Mosaddek, another offspinning allrounder, indicates it would be another turning track in Dhaka.

The second Test begins on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Squad:

Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Taijul Islam, Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Nurul Hasan, Subashis Roy and Mosaddek Hossain.
