His brisk 95-ball 106 was well supported by Nazmul Hossain Shanto (72) but England fought back with Zafar Ansari's four-wicket haul and two scalps from Stuart Broad and Gareth Batty each at Chittagong's MA Aziz Stadium.

It was Mazid who took the centrestage on Sunday.

Mazid has been a regular performer in the domestic scene but he was never known for his aggression. But the 25-year-old opener switched gears against the tourists.

He kept leaning on his front foot for graceful drives on the first day but fell short of a remarkable pre-lunch ton, gathering 92 off 86 balls in the first session.

Soumya Sarkar, his opening partner, contributed just four runs in a 51-run stand before a tame dismissal. Mazid regained impetus with Shanto in a 72-run partnership but could not continue batting in the second session after suffering a cramp.

After Moeen Ali took out Mominul Haque for just one, Mosaddek Hossain (47) joined Shanto and the duo breezed through the second session, adding another 77 runs to take their team past 200 by 45 overs.

Mosaddek, who is looking for a Test spot, played a good hand and stroked two boundaries and three sixes in his 49-ball knock.

Mazid's knock featured a number of good-looking drives but he often played lofted shots without caution, whereas Shanto looked more collected.

Shanto, who seemed to offer stability at three, played 130 balls and hit 13 boundaries before being caught at point off Ansari.

Mazid returned in the third session and took four more balls to reach the century. He studded his knock with 16 boundaries and a six before being bowled by Broad.

England's Ben Duckett (2) then played out four overs with Haseed Hammed, yet to get on the scoresheet, before the close of play.
