The 20-year-old seamer gave away an uncharacteristic 31 runs from 3.2 overs.

Asked to bat first, the Sussex batsman posted a subpar 153-6 at Kennington Oval.

In reply, Surrey reached their target in 18.2 overs, much to the disappointment of more than five hundred Bangladeshi among a capacity crowd of about 24,500, who had come to cheer the youngster.

Stroking three boundaries in the first three balls of the innings, opener Jason Roy cracked 36 off 25 balls to give Surrey a brisk start.

Dominic Sibley then capitalised on the strong base and scored 40 off 31 balls to take his team closer before Ben Foakes (22) and Chris Morris (20) sauntered off to target.

Earlier Craig Cachopa (45) and Chris Nash (39) helped Sussex post in excess of 150.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Cachopa smashed seven boundaries in his 34-ball innings.

Jade Dernbach and Morris bagged a couple of wickets each for Surrey.

The defeat saw Sussex slip to sixth in the South Group points table. They now have 12 points from 13 games. Fifth-placed Surrey are level on points but ahead on net-run-rate.

Sussex will now take on Gloucestershire on Jul 24 and Hampshire on Jul 27 in the Royal London One-Day Cup before facing Glamorgan in their last T20 Blast group stage tie on Jul 28.

They are scheduled for One-Day Cup clashes against Somerset on Jul 30 and Kent on Aug 2.
