The 18-year old spinner is now the top wicket-taker in Youth ODIs, surpassing Pakistani bowler Imad Wasim's record.

Having earned a thumping eight-wicket victory against Namibia, Bangladesh claimed the top spot of Group A at Cox's Bazar's Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

"Actually, I feel great as a captain. We won today's match; I made a record too. We became group champions. What else could I want?" Miraz said after the match.

Miraz had taken out tail-ender Warren Van Wyk to take his tally to 74 wickets when his teammates rushed to him and hoisted him on their shoulders before commencing episodes of bear hugs and pats on the back.

"When I got the last wicket, everybody came and embraced me, congratulated me. I really loved it. They were saying I've achieved a great record, especially (Nazmul Hossain) Shanto was very excited," he said.

Bangladesh youths now hold both the records of highest runs and highest wickets in the age group.

On his way to an unbeaten century, Shanto had posted the record of the highest runs scorer in the previous match against Scotland.

Miraz was at the other end when Shanto registered the new record on Sunday. His jubilation at that moment was striking.

On Tuesday, Shanto's celebration for his friend's record was noticeable too.

"I was confident about making the record today. But not everything happens according to your wish. Sometimes too much effort brings the opposite result.

"Shanto was telling me - 'you won't get any wicket if you keep thinking about the record, try to bowl normally'. His words proved useful for me. I just bowled naturally".

"We all feel great but we should not leash our emotions here. We still have a long way to go. If we cut short our good feelings here, we won't be able to fulfil our goal," said Miraz.
