He needed 61 runs to overtake Pakistan's Sami Aslam and crossed that in style as he raced to his century against the Scots in their second Group A match of the Under-19 World Cup.

Bangladesh, who were tottering at 17 for 2, recovered through Shanto's 113 not out. The 17-year old shared two century stands with Saif Hassan (49) and skipper Mehedi Hassan Miraz (51) to help his team to 256 for 6.

The dazzling innings, which took his tally to 1,747 runs, was Shanto's second big knock after the match-winning 73 he scored against South Africa in the opener on Wednesday.

He pulled Scottish skipper Neil Flack through mid-wicket for a boundary in the 38th over to go past Aslam's tally of 1,695.

Aslam had piled the tally in 40 matches -- Shanto took 18 more matches to do that. The Pakistani hit six centuries, the highest in Youth ODIs, while Shanto scored just one.

The third highest run scorer on the list is the South African national team's present wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock. He scored 1409 runs in just 30 matches with four centuries.

India's Vijay Zol is the fourth highest -- 1404 runs in 36 matches.

Bangladesh's Anamul Haque is fifth with 1326 runs scored in 38 matches.
