The hosts put up a gritty show to edge the English side by 14 runs at the BKSP ground No. 3 on Friday.

Bangladesh posted 117 for 8 after electing to bat first and then went on to restrict England to 103 for 7.

A fine allround performance from Drupam Patranabish Tirtho set Bangladesh off to the winning start in the five-nation competition.

The tie was originally set for Wednesday after the tournament's inauguration at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

But heavy rains washed out the match.

Chasing 118 to win, England lost an early wicket but Jamie Goodwin and Callum Flynn brought the chase back on track.

Khan broke the resistance by sending Goodwin (31) back.

Tirtho then took out Flynn (33) to bring Bangladesh back in the hunt.

Thereafter, Bangladesh slowly took control of the match as England slid towards defeat.

Tirtho was pick of the Bangladesh bowlers. He returned 3 for 12.

Earlier, Apurbo Kumar Paul (22) and Alam (19) held the Bangladesh innings before Tirtho (17) and Monirujjaman (14) ensured that their bowlers had a defendable total.

Flynn took two wickets for England.

The tournament, which is the first of its kind, has been arranged by the International Committee of the Red Cross along with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan and Bangladesh Cricket Board.
