Rain washes out opener of 5-nation T20 tournament

Incessant rain has prevented play in the opening match of the ICRC 5-nation T20 Cricket Tournament between Bangladesh and England.

The match for cricketers with disabilities was to start at 11am at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur but the umpires called off the game after rain continued until 1pm on Wednesday.

Despite the rain, the galleries were crowded with students from different schools.  Bangladesh and England players gave away autographs and took pictures with them.

Afghanistan will take on Pakistan at ground No. 3 of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) before India play against England at ground No. 4 on Thursday.

The first game will start on 9:30am while the next is set to begin at 1:30pm.

Bangladesh will play their second match against Pakistan on Friday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first ever competition of its kind at 10:30am.
