He made the request during the prize-giving ceremony after the thumping nine-wicket victory over the Proteas in the third ODI in Chittagong on Wednesday.

Commentator Shamim Ashraf Chowdhury asked Mashrafe if he would ask the prime minister, who is a big fan of Bangladesh, to extend the vacation for the celebrations.

“Maybe,” the captain replied.

“You can request directly,” Chowdhury said.

Mashrafe then spoke in Bangla: “Honourable prime minister, please give us an extra holiday.”

Now it is the time for Hasina to decide on the matter.
