Like every other cricket fan of the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, too, spent the seven hours of the cliff-hanger Bangladesh-Scotland match on the edge of her seat.

Unable to contain her excitement, she went on to make as many as three calls to New Zealand.

Bangladesh thrashed Scotland by six wickets in their Pool A clash at Saxton Oval in Nelson on Thursday.

The match commenced at 4am (Bangladesh time) with Scotland batting first.

The prime minister made the first call to inquire about the condition of opener Anamul Haque, who had left the ground after being injured while saving a boundary in the 31st over, said Nazmul Karim Tinku, a BCB member accompanying the team.

He said the prime minister called again after Scotland set a mammoth target of 319 for the Tigers.

She called for the third time after Bangladesh successfully completed their highest ever run chase in the ODIs.

Tinku said, after Tigers’ victory, she spoke to the Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mushfiqur Rahim.
A person privy to the call, said Mushfiqur was beside Mashrafe when the prime minister called the latter.
After conversation with him, Mashrafe gave the phone to Mushfiqur for a talk with the PM.
In the course of the conversation Hasina congratulated the entire Bangladesh team for its magnificent victory.
She also sent a separate message congratulating the players, team manager, coach and BCB officials.
With this victory against Scotland in the group match, Bangladesh has now brightened their prospects of qualifying for the quarter finals of the World Cup 2015.
