The right-handed batsman also became the first Associate team batsman to score 150 in a World Cup.

The Scottish opener shared a 141-run stand with captain Preston Mommsen and helped his team to get back on track with the run-a-ball hundred at Saxton Oval in Nelson.

Coetzer, after losing out two early wickets, shared a 78-run stand for the third wicket with Matt Machan and the two took their team past 100-run mark.

He surpassed Gavin Hamilton’s 76 scored against Pakistan in 1999 World Cup.

Coetzer, who scored the century off 103 balls, crossed the milestone with a six. When he was dismissed on 156 off 134 balls, his knock included 17 fours and four sixes.

It was his second One-Day International ton. His first century came against Afghanistan in 2003 in Sharjah.

The Scotsmen were aided by Bangladeshi bowlers who erred on line and length and a fielding that was ragged.

The bowling in the slog overs was poor with the exception of Shakib Al Hasan who was able to keep the opposition batsmen in check by bowling with good control.

Pacer Taskin Ahmed was the pick of their bowlers returning 3 for 43 in 7 overs.

There was more bad news for the Tigers as opener Anamul Haque appeared to have dislocated his shoulder while looking to save a boundary.
