The procedure was performed by orthopaedic surgeon Dr David Young on Monday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) senior physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, who has been in constant contact with the surgeon, said Dr Young was confident that Tamim would be able to return to training in two to three weeks following his rehab, which will begin immediately.

The BCB medical team will decide on the management plan for the player in consultation with Dr Young after evaluating the complete report of the surgery.

Dr Chowdhury also said Dr Young was hopeful that Tamim would be able to play in the next World Cup.

Tamim has been selected for the preliminary squad of 30 players.

In line with ICC rules, the BCB will have to hand over the final 15-member squad before Jan 7.
