The former Bangladesh captain’s eight-year ban has been curtailed to five years which also includes last two years of leniency subject to his “participation in the anti-corruption education and training programme to be organized by the BCB and/or the ICC”.

The punishment is effective from Aug 13, 2013.

“I am satisfied with this verdict. Now I want to return to domestic cricket quickly,” Ashraful said from the UK in a reaction to the verdict.

“Upon production of a certificate of good conduct from ICC”, the Bangladesh Cricket Board in a media statement said, “he would be eligible to return to cricket ‘on or about 13 August, 2016”.

However, the fine of Tk 1 million imposed on the 30-year-old was upheld.

Ashraful has the option of going to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) within 21 days of the verdict.

The youngest Test ton scorer, however, did not confirm if he would appeal to the international court.
