India's Ravichandran Ashwin has raced ahead to be the best Test all-rounder.

The India off-spinner, Ashwin, is at the top with 357 points.

Shakib, who has played 34 Tests, was banned after sparking controversies on and off the field last July.

The ban barred the 27-year-old from taking part in the series against the West Indies.

Before this, he topped the all-rounder ranking a month ago, despite not playing Tests for six months. But poor performances of his rivals had more to do with that than his own.

Shakib's ratings points have slipped from 364 to 350. Ashwin had been lurking in the second position with 357 ratings points.

Bangladesh's best all-rounder led the Test all-rounder ranking for the first time on Dec 17, 2011 – with a career-best ratings points of 404.

Ashwin and Shakib are followed by South Africa's Vernon Philander, with 348 ratings points. England's Stuart Broad (296) and Australia's Mitchell Johnson (280) round off the top five.

Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara leads the Test batsmen ranking with 915 ratings points, while Dale Steyn leads the Test bowlers with 907.
