The top all-rounder had been slapped with a six-month ban by the board after he went to play in the Caribbean Premier League without a No-Objection Certificate (NOC), which brought to light a number of other problems including Shakib’s behaviour.

Moreover, the board had decided not to provide any NOC to the all-rounder for playing any foreign tournament for the next 18 months.

Shakib went to the BCB headquarters on Sunday afternoon. Later he told journalists there he had asked the board to reconsider the penalty.

He submitted the application seeking a revision of the penalty to chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury after meeting cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan at the BCB office.

“I’ve grown up with the BCB and the Bangladesh team. Bangladesh cricket is a big place of emotion for me. I’m sincerely applying to the board to reconsider the decision from that viewpoint,” he said.

“Cricket is my life. I’ve been using Bangladesh and BCB logos from the Under-15 phase. This is the biggest thing for me to feel proud. I play for the national side giving everything I can. It will be the same in future as well.”

Shakib admitted that in some cases his behaviour had not been disciplined and restrained as a professional player’s and as a cricketer’s under board contract. He promised more matured behaviour in future.

“I sincerely apologize for any behaviour that embarrassed the board and the team. At the same time, I offer my apology to the supporters, who are always with Bangladesh cricket,” Shakib added.

Nizamuddin confirmed that the board had received Shakib’s application.

He said, “The board will decide on this. There is nothing to say about this right now. I will forward the application to the authorities.”

The BCB had earlier advised Shakib to appeal against the penalty.

The 27-year-old had asked BCB President Nazmul Hasan to reduce the ban when the all-rounder met the board chief personally last Wednesday.

Shakib was instructed to appeal as a player under BCB contract. The board would take its decision after the appeal was made, he had been told.
