Harsh punishments like lifetime ban can be clamped for serious offences.

Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hasan sounded the warning on Monday.

In addition, the No 1 all-rounder will not get any No-Objection Certificate from the BCB, required to play tournaments outside the country, for the next 18 months.

Shakib had left Dhaka to play in the Caribbean Premier League without a No-Objection Certificate, which the superstar explained was due to a "misunderstanding".

The BCB boss, after a meeting in the day, said the situation was deteriorating as cricketers were let off the hook even after breaching rules.

"They (cricketers) have been doing this (breaking rules) for a long time. If we keep turning a blind eye, they won't care about anyone.

"All of them are spiraling out of control…they don't listen to anyone, neither the coach nor the captain. Given the situation, we believe discipline must be restored," he told reporters.

Hasan believes Shakib's numerous behavioural problems is influencing many players of the national team.

"Some have started behaving like him," he said adding, "this will lead to a disaster for our cricket."

The BCB chief spoke to players, coach and other officials to find out the problem. He found 'a lack of teamwork' and a tendency to consistently perform poorly.

He said a major overhaul was on the way.

"Letters are being issued against each player. They must inform the BCB and take permission if they want to be involved with any advertisement or commercial venture."
