Additionally, the nation's top cricketer will not be provided any No-Objection Certificate, required to play tournaments outside the country, for the next 18 months.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan stated about this exemplary action against Shakib after a board meeting on Monday.
The world's No1 all-rounder had left Dhaka to play in the Caribbean Premier League without the No-Objection Certificate. He was asked last Friday to return to join the Bangladesh team’s training camp that started on July 1.
On his return Shakib explained he went to play CPL without any permission from the board due to a misunderstanding.
Following the ban, Shakib is barred from playing in any tournament abroad until Dec 31 next year. The BCB has cancelled NOCs provided earlier for some tournaments.
The six-month ban will end before the start of the Australia-New Zealand World Cup.
Shakib has also been barred from joining training sessions with the national team. However, he can individually use the BCB practice facilities.
During the recent home series against India, Shakib made another breach of BCB rules when he made his way into the spectator’s gallery.
The incident took place during the second ODI against India on June 15 at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium. Some youths in the gallery were pestering Shakib’s wife, Umme Ahmed Shishir. This led to a brawl between BCB security personnel, joined by Shakib, and the men.
Later Shakib was asked to explain the gallery incident. He claimed that he was not aware of any rule that restricted him from going to the gallery during the match. BCB was unhappy with the explanation.
