Mustafa Kamal becomes ICC chief

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has become the first from Bangladesh to be president of International Cricket Council (ICC).

He was elected as the 11th president of the governing body at the ICC annual conference in Australia’s Melbourne on Thursday.

Bangladesh was given the status of a Test playing nation on the same day 14 year ago.

“The people of Bangladesh love cricket. Cricket is their inspiration,” Mustafa Kamal said in an instant reaction.

He expressed his gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their support.

Kamal who served as vice-president of ICC and president of Asian Cricket Council, said : “I am eagerly looking forward to working with the ICC board and management for 12 months,” he said.

Former chief of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) M Srinivasan was elected as the new chairman of ICC.

"It is an honour to be confirmed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council," Srinivasan said in a statement.
