The Wednesday night search went on until 10pm, he said.

Pritilata, Shamsun Nahar and Khaleda Zia halls were searched during the operation that comes in the backdrop of the recent spate of terror attacks after which security agencies unearthed evidence of involvement of women terrorists.

The proctor told bdnews24.com that a team comprising female police, proctorial body members and hall authorities began the search at 7pm.

“A huge body of religiously provocative books, leaflets, laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards and other electronic materials was seized,” he said.

Associate Proctor Liton Mitra said books written by controversial writers like Jamaat-e-Islami spiritual head Sayed Abdul A’la Maududi, Delwar Hossain Sayedee and others were recovered from the students during the raid.

A huge cache of promotional literature of Islami Chhatra Sangstha, receipts of payments to Bayt-ul-Maal, and other material were also found.

No-one has been arrested in the operation, the proctor said.

All seized materials have been deposited at his office, he said and detailed information would be made public on Thursday.

After confirmation that Gulshan attack mastermind Nurul Islam Marzan is an alumnus of the university, searches have been going on at seminar halls and libraries of various departments since Tuesday.

Books by controversial personalities like Maududi, Sayedee and Zakir Naik have been recovered in large amounts from the Arabic department library.

Vice Chancellor Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury earlier told bdnews24.com that all books and other materials that incite religious hatred, if found in the main library, departmental libraries and mosques would be swiftly withdrawn.
