Several journalists, who witnessed the incident at the university's main gate around 10:30pm on Wednesday, informed bdnews24.com first.
Later, Shafiqul, who was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, said he saw some BCL activists taking a boy and a girl from the gate to a guard room around 9pm.
The activists of ruling Awami League's student affiliate started beating the boy up at one stage, Shafiqul said.
He said the BCL activists hit him on the head and back with iron rods.
Bangladesh Chhatra Union has condemned the attack and demanded punishment of those involved in it.
It released a statement later in the night signed by President Lucky Akter and General Secretary GM Jilani Shuvo condemning the attack.
