Professor Rezaul Karim was hacked to death by miscreants near his residence on Saturday morning. Police suspected it was the handiwork of fundamentalist elements.

The incident has left the university teachers outraged.

Classes and examinations were suspended for Saturday and Sunday.

The protest programme was later extended up to Monday.

A meeting was held on Saturday night on the campus.

Teachers' Association Secretary Dr Shah Ajam Shantunu said "Initially classes and examinations were suspended for Saturday and Sunday. Monday too has been brought now within the ambit of the protest programme."

A rally will be organised at Zero Point of the city to mobilise mass support on Sunday.

On Monday, a human chain will be formed on the campus and a memorandum addressing to the prime minister will be submitted to the vice chancellor.

The agitating teachers demanded exemplary punishment of the killers.

The university has witnessed the murder of three other teachers in the last 12 years.

During the Liberation War, Pakistani Army and their collaborators had killed three professors at this university.
