The convict, Sanjay Kumar Sahani, was nabbed from a test venue on the university campus on Friday.

Executive Magistrate Sharmin Sultana, heading a mobile court, sentenced him.

DU authorities also handed over Sahani’s friend and accomplice Md Mehedi to Shahbagh police.

Sultana said they had suggested DU authorities to start a case against Mehedi.

Acting Proctor Amzad Ali said the roll number on Sahani’s admit card was identical with that of another student Mehedi Hasan.

The invigilator at the examination centre allowed both of them to sit the test but they were detained after the exam.

“We found Hasan’s card to be authentic and let him go but Sahani was sentenced to jail as his admit card was forged,” Ali said.

During questioning, Sahani said he studied with Mehedi and Hasan at school and college.
But Mehedi could not take the entrance test as he failed to clear the HSC examinations.
He claimed Mehedi had filled out his admission test form at a computer centre in Khulna.
But after coming to take the test he had realised that his and Hasan’s roll numbers were same, Sahani said.
After hearing Sahani’s version, his friend Mehedi was called to the proctor’s office.
Mehedi said he had paid a computer shop to enrol for DU entry test.
He claimed he collected the admit card from that shop and gave it to Sahani.
As many as 43,000 candidates sat the 'Ga' unit test for 1,170 seats under the business faculty’s honours course.
