Three suspects have been arrested from as many as three dormitories following the incident on Tuesday morning, said Inspector Md Moinuddin of the university’s police outpost.

The bus was going to pick up teachers from the city when it was attacked at Choudhuryhaat, said proctor Siraj Uddin Doula.

No one was injured, he said, adding that police were guarding key points to make the route safe for other transport.

A student strike was called from Sunday under the banner of ‘Residential Hall Students’ after the authorities closed down the ‘Islami Chhatra Shibir-dominated’ Suhrawardy Hall when police found several hand bombs among other local weapons there.

The raid followed a clash between the Jamaat-e-Islami student wing and ruling party student affiliate Bangladesh Chhatra League on the campus on Aug 24.

A media statement by ‘Residential Hall Students’ said the strike was to push for reopening closed halls.

The Shah Amanat Hall was closed after fighting between Shibir and BCL led to murder of two students on Jan 12.

Miscreants hurled handmade bombs from a field in Choudhuryhaat at a shuttle train headed for the university on Monday.

No casualties, however, were reported.
