The assurance was given at a meeting of the core committee on crisis management at the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Wednesday. Factory owners from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BGMEA attended it.
"Factory owners assured us that the workers will be paid their dues before Eid-ul-Azha. But owners facing financial crisis will need to take steps after reaching an understanding with their workers," Mujibul Haque Chunnu, State Minster for Labour, later told reporters.
He urged both workers and owners of garment factories to work towards avoiding unrest over back pay.
The meeting also talked about granting leave to workers in several stages to avoid traffic congestions that happen when holidayers leave the capital for homes in towns and villages.
The move is also said to maintain production schedules of factories.
