Bangladesh Jewellers Samity or Bajus has put the rise in prices of the precious metal in international market down to the reason behind the latest price hike.

The new prices with a hike of Tk 1,225 per bhori (11.664 grams) for the finest refined quality, 22 carats, will go into effect from Friday.

The other categories of gold would be costlier by Tk 816 to Tk 1,341 per bhori.

Bajus General Secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala told bdnews24.com the prices have been adjusted with those in the international market.

According to him, the yellow metal costs $1,258 per ounce (2.654 bhori) now in the global market, which was $1,200 a month ago.

“In line with that hike, the price of gold in Bangladesh should go up by Tk 1,500 per bhori. We’ve raised much less in comparison to that figure,” Agarwala said.

According to him, the price of silver, which is Tk 1,050 per bhori now, remains unchanged.

On May 8, the traders of the precious metals lowered the prices by up to Tk 1,166 after several hikes in previous one year.

22 carat – Tk 47,122

21 carat – Tk 45,198

18 carat – Tk 39,657
