“The owners have been asked to clear all their dues before the holidays start,” he said after holding a meeting at his ministry on Sunday.

The meeting focused on how to keep highways safe and free of traffic during Eid holidays.

Leaders of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BKMEA and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BGMEA were present at the meeting.

Referring to them, Khan said: “They have assured me that wages and Eid bonuses will be paid to the workers in due manner.”

The workers will go on holiday in phases starting Jun 22.

The home minister highlighted adequate safety measures that he claimed have been taken to avert crimes in the capital, particularly in the diplomatic zones, during Eid holidays.

The official three-day vacation for Eid-Ul-Fitr starts on Jun 25. The festival that follows a month of fasting for Muslims may be celebrated on Jun 26 or Jun 27 in Bangladesh, depending on the sighting of the moon.

Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque, RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed, DMP Commissioner MD Asaduzzaman Mia, and Highway Police Deputy Inspector General Atiqul Islam were present at the meeting.
