Dhaka’s Ambassador Abdul Motaleb Sarker recently visited Tripoli, the second largest city and commercial hub of Lebanon, and met the Governor of Tripoli and North Lebanon region Justice Ramzi Nohra in his office in Serail, the embassy said on Tuesday.

The governor himself is a businessman.

The ambassador briefed Bangladesh’s socio-economic development, and said Lebanese people have “versatility and high business intelligence”.

The governor was delighted to learn about such economic opportunities and expressed his desire to send a delegation to Bangladesh in near future.

The ambassador also shared with the governor a “few problems” Bangladeshi workers face mostly on the issue of non-payment of salary, overtime, not renewing workers’ ekama.

The Governor responded positively to look into those issues.

The Ambassador also had a long meeting with the members of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Tripoli (CCIAT) and North Lebanon led by the CCIAT President Toufiq Dabbousi.
