The embassy in Bangkok, which is concurrently accredited to Cambodia, on Monday said it would organise Tuesday’s show with leading Bangladesh companies at Phnom Penh's Sokha Hotel.
Manufacturers and companies having export potentials of cotton yarn and knit and crocheted fabrics , pharmaceuticals, bone china, ceramic ware, leatherware, polymer and plastic products, tea, jute bags and jute products, beverages, steel and steel products are participating in the showcase exhibition.
“This is a historic moment in Bangladesh-Cambodia bilateral trade and economic relations,” Bangladesh ambassador Saida Muna Tasneem was quoted as saying in a statement.
She said this would also be a “historic moment” in Bangladesh-Cambodia diplomatic history as the event was being organised despite Dhaka’s having no resident embassy in Phnom Penh.
She said the show would usher in for the two countries “a new era” of trade and investment.
Cambodia's Secretary of State for Commerce Ministry Chuuon Dara will inaugurate the show while Bangladesh's Senior Secretary for Commerce Hedayetullah Al Mamoon and Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Kazi M. Aminul Islam will be present as guests.
Square Pharma, Beximco Pharma, Globe Pharma, One Pharma, Shinepukur Ceramics, BGMA, BTMA, BKMEA, Bengal Polymar, Kazi and Kazi Tea, BSRM Ltd, Bangladesh Jute Development Center, and CK Frozen Fish will be among the firms participating in the fair.
"We hope this will provide a platform for our companies for increasing exports from Bangladesh and promoting bilateral investment", said Ambassador Tasneem.
