The strike was called on Sunday after a number of workers and drivers were allegedly harassed and assaulted at Daudkandi weighing scale on Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association Secretary Md Ruhul Amin Sikdar confirmed that container movement to and from the 16 private depots across the country has been hampered due to the strike.

Oikya Parishad leader Golam Mawla has alleged that drivers and labourers of Prime mover were harassed and fined up to Tk 12000 alleging that the container is carrying the overload.

The Road Transport and Highway Department had on Aug 16 fixed 33 tonnes as the maximum permissible load that a 14-wheeler could carry.

Oikya Parishad claims that a prime trailer could not carry more than 13 to 14 tonnes load, excluding the weight of the vehicle.
