"Vegetable prices are high; fish is selling at a reasonable price; but the price of green chilli is abnormal," said Golam Mawla, an executive director of a garment factory.

He was at Mohammadpur Kitchen Market for the first time after Eid on Saturday.

"Vegetable prices have gone up by Tk 5 to 15 per kg. But green chilli price is up by Tk 100 a kg," he said.

The price of green chilli was Tk 180 to Tk 240 a kg on Saturday. It was Tk 80 to 90 before Eid.

Traders have blamed a lack of supply for the high price of green chilli.

The price of salt has remained high, despite assurances from the government about controlling it.

The traders in Dhaka were selling salt at Tk 26 to 40 a kg.

According to customers, the price of Hilsha had dropped.

Ahsan Habib, an employee at a private bank, said he was happy after buying a pair of 800 gram of Hilsha at Tk 1,100.
