The new state entity has been created out of a merger between Privatisation Commission and Board of Investment.

The BIDA chief is a former Secretary to the Prime Minister and a former Alternate Executive Director to The World Bank Group.

“I believe Bangladesh has immense potential, now it’s up to us how we tap into that potential,” said Kazi Aminul Islam in an immediate reaction on his appointment.

“We need to work hard, work together to project the real image of Bangladesh,” he told bdnews24.com.

Kazi Aminul replaces Dr SA Samad, who as head of now-defunct BOI enjoyed the rank and status of a Cabinet Minister.

The other defunct entity Privatisation Commission was being led by Mollah Wahiduzzaman with the status of a state minister.

Previous heads of Privatisation Commission such as Awami League leaders Kazi Zafarullah and Mirza Jalil had also been given ministerial rank.

A government statement Sunday night confirmed the appointment of Kazi Aminul.
