Banks to remain closed on Jul 4

All state-owned and private commercial banks will be remain closed on Jul 4, a day before the official three-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday starts.

A Bangladesh Bank circular issued on Sunday, however, instructed branches in industrial zones, especially those with apparel factories, to operate on Jul 2 and 3 (Saturday and Sunday).

It also asked banks to ensure adequate security and overtime for employees for the two days when branches in industrial areas will remain open.

Exercising her executive powers, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced Jul 4 as a public holiday paving the way for a nine-day Eid vacations this year.

With the one-day extra holiday after the Shab-e-Qadr holiday the previous day, all government offices will remain closed from Jul 1 to 9, including two weekends.

The Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed held on either Jul 6 or 7 depending on sighting of the moon.
