The regional chapter of the tank-truck workers’ union went on an indefinite strike from Saturday morning, but called it off, for the time being, on Sunday following talks with the authorities.

Fuel supply resumed from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation’s oil depot in Sirajganj to the northern region.

Oil supply was halted on Saturday as the Union called a strike to protest the murder of two of its members in Rangpur.

“The strike has been postponed following a meeting with the district administration,” the union’s President Shahjahan Siraj told bdnews24.com on Sunday.

He, however, said the strike would be resumed next Saturday (Apr 16), if the killers were not brought to book by then.

On Mar 21, unidentified criminals killed a driver and his assistant - both members of the union - of a rice-laden truck going to Pabna from Dinajpur and looted the goods.

A case was filed in connection with the incident but police are yet to make arrests or recover the loot commodities.
