The Uttarbanga Tank-Lorry Workers’ Union enforced the indefinite strike from Saturday morning, to protest the murder of two of their colleagues in Rangpur.

As a result, no fuel oil could be supplied to the region from Sirajganj’s Baghabari depot of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, depot manager Abdul Mazid Khan told bdnews24.com.

On Mar 21, unidentified criminals killed the driver and his assistant, both members of the union, of a rice-laden truck on its way to Pabna from Dinajpur and looted the goods.

A case was filed in connection with the incident but police have yet to make any arrest or recover the loot.

Shahjahan Siraj, president of the union, said, “We had enforced an hour-long strike on Thursday demanding arrest of the criminals by Friday. As nothing happened, we have enforced this nonstop strike.

“It will continue until the killers are caught.”
