Prices of sugar, salt, soybean oil go up

Soybean oil prices have continued to increase, and so have sugar and salt.

On Friday, prices of fresh vegetables and other groceries remained more or less the same as those of the last week.

Mohiuddin Ahmed, a trader at Karwan Bazar kitchen market, told bdnews24.com that loose soybean oil sold at Tk 87, palm oil Tk 64 and super palm oil at Tk 68 per kg.

'Hannan', another trader of Karwan Bazar, said he sold soybean oil at Tk 90, palm oil at Tk 65 and super palm oil at Tk 70 a kg.

But, most of the traders at Chankhar Pool Ananda Bazar sold every kg of soybean oil at Tk 92.

A salesman of this bazar, 'Akib', said they were selling soya oil at Tk 91/90 per kg having purchase it at Tk 86 and added the carrying costs.

In January, soybean oil was priced Tk 85 a kg.

Prices of sugar continued to leave bitter a taste in the buyers’ mouth. 

Karwan Bazar's wholesale trader 'Raju' said a 50 kg sack of sugar costs Tk 2,230, up from Tk 1,850 last month.

The retail price of one kg sugar has increased from Tk 35/36 to Tk 44 in one month.

Another trader said the refineries have hiked the price from February. "Refined salt costs Tk 22 a kg and unrefined salt costs Tk 32," he said.

But, a sales representative of ACI Group claimed a slide in the prices starting from the current week.

Prices of eggs have increased to Tk 105 a dozen from Tk 96-98 last week.

Potatoes, fresh vegetables, beef, mutton, and broiler chicken cost the same as last week.
