Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali on Friday called on Maharashtra Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao and briefed him on the opportunities in Bangladesh for Indian investors.

“Investors from Maharashtra may look for opportunities that Bangladesh offers, especially in shipbuilding, agro-business, energy, and power sectors,” said Ali.

Enhancement of trade and economic opportunities, cooperation in education, ICT, media, and culture were also discussed during their interactions.

The envoy sought the governor’s assistance to boost his country’s trade and business relations with Maharashtra, with its capital Mumbai being the financial nerve centre of India.

He said Bangladesh attaches the highest importance to its relations with India and is committed to cooperate on issues of mutual interests like connectivity and regional security.

Ali invited Governor Rao to visit Bangladesh to “see and experience” the opportunities that Bangladesh may offer in trade, economy and other sectors.

The governor promised all possible support to enhance trade and economic relations with Maharashtra, a press statement issued by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi said.

Ali also attended a luncheon meeting at the World Trade Centre (WTC), Mumbai, in the afternoon.

A cross-section of people including leaders of several Indian trade organisations, bankers, and high officials of the WTC later met him.

The implementation of India-supported Line of Credit (LOC), enhancement of trade and business with Maharashtra and cooperation in agriculture were discussed during the meeting.

WTC showed keen interests to participate in the upcoming “Agriculture show” in Bangladesh, the statement said.

The high commissioner is visiting Mumbai to attend the “Make in India Week’ at the invitation of the government of India.
