Bangladesh’s exports stood at $19.26 billion in the seven months of the 2015-16 fiscal, up from $17.19 billion in 2014-15, says the latest figures released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

Readymade garments contributed the most, clocking at $15.76 billion, up by 9 percent from the last fiscal’s figures.

In January, exports amounted to $3.18 billion, which is 10.4 percent higher than the figure in last January.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Siddiqur Rahman expects the current upbeat trend in exports to last through the remaining five months of the fiscal year.

“We hope exports will grow by 10 percent this year,” he told bdnews24.com.

He said he felt the present political stability contributed to a rise in export earnings.

The pharmaceutical sector saw an 18 percent growth in exports during this period, while the ship-building industry recorded a 118 percent export increase.

But export earnings dropped in almost all other sectors. The fall was 17 percent in frozen foods.
