Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BRTC) has sent letters to the chief executive officers of Grameenphone, Banglalink and Citycell and managing director of Teletalk regarding the meeting.

The letters said the BTRC chairman would be present at the meeting, where every operator can send a maximum of three representatives.

The Commission will hold a public hearing on the merger move on Feb 17.

The parent companies of Robi and Airtel signed an agreement on Jan 28 for the merger, after which the entity will operate as Robi.

The merger will take the combined customer strength to around 40 million, almost a fourth of Bangladesh’s total mobile users.

Grameenphone, with 50 million subscribers, is the country’s largest mobile phone operator.

Robi and Airtel began merger talks in September last year.

Malaysian-based Axiata Group Berhad owns Robi and Bharti Airtel Limited of India Airtel.
