The amount is more than twice the orders received in last year’s fair, which was somewhat paralysed by the BNP-led alliance’s violent protests.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed revealed the information at the closing ceremony on Sunday.

Last year, Bangladeshi businesses received orders of $12.1 million.

“The fair does not only aim at exhibition. All related parties get the opportunity to compare their products and develop practical ideas on how other countries diversify, package, present products and form their marketing strategies,” Commerce Minister Ahmed said.

Most of this year’s orders are for electronics and home appliances, jute products, processed food, tableware, handloom products, handicraft, and home textiles.

The sale this year was over Tk 1.21 billion. The direct sales last year amounted to a little over Tk 710 million last year.

Walton got the award for the best pavilion this year. Hatil Complex Limited was the runner up while Olympic Industries, Abul Khayer Milk Products and Akhtar Furnishers Limited shared the third position.
