International RMG sourcing trade show kicks off in Dhaka

A four-day international sourcing trade show on ready-made garment (RMG) industry has begun in Dhaka.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated three international events at the show as chief guest. Around 300 companies from more than 30 countries are taking part in them.

Zakaria Trade & Fair International, ASK Trade & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd and Bangladesh Garment Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) are co-organising the exhibition.

Three events are the 15th edition of GARMENTECH Bangladesh 2016 – International Apparel Machinery & Allied Products Tradeshow, seventh edition of International Yarn & Fabrics Sourcing Fair, and seventh edition of GAP Expo-2016 International Garment Accessories, Packaging & Related Machinery Expo.

‘GARMENTECH Bangladesh’ showcases the latest in sewing, knitting, embroidery, laundry, finishing, dyeing, CAD/CAM, printing, cutting, spreading machinery from leading companies of Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, India, Turkey, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, USA, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

Some of the machinery are being launched at the show for the first time in Bangladesh in keeping with the needs of the industry.

Into its seventh edition, International Yarn & Fabrics Sourcing Fair has the latest collection of natural and synthetic yarn and fabric, and its blends both for woven and knit sectors showcased by overseas companies from India, China, and Singapore besides Bangladesh.

In the quest for value-added garment sourcing, newer and innovative blends of natural and synthetic fabrics are showcased for the benefit of merchandisers, buying agents and buying houses, and RMG makers.

The seventh edition of GAP Expo-2016, co-organised with the Bangladesh Garment Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA), has the largest collection of garment accessories and packaging used by the RMG industry showcased by leading companies from Bangladesh as well as from overseas.

Companies are showcasing garment accessories, packaging and related machinery including labels, zips, tags, tapes, thread, ribbon, buttons, rivets, laces, hooks, transfer film, paper, and ink along with related machinery.

In the inaugural speech, Industries Minister Amu said the government is working to make the accessories and packaging sectors flourish.

As part of this process, his ministry has instructed the BSCIC to set up a full-fledged institute and a testing laboratory.

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor and apparel entrepreneur Annisul Huq said, “Some NGOs and many of our competitors are engaged in destroying the RMG industry. In this situation, the governments’ policy support is important to take the industry forward.”

Nanda Gopal K, Director of ASK Trade & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, said, “When we started GARMENTECH Bangladesh in 2002 the RMG sector was exporting $4.5 billion and we have seen the sector grow rapidly to reach $27 billion plus in the last 15 years.

“GARMENTECH Bangladesh and its concurrent shows have played their parts in bringing global suppliers to the doorsteps of the local manufacturers through live demonstration of technology, yarn and fabrics and garment accessories  and packaging – all under one roof.”
